The subclass 600 Tourist stream is lodged online through ImmiAccount. There is no visa application centre step unless biometrics or a health examination are requested.
The visa application charge is indexed by the Department of Home Affairs each financial year, and an onshore application costs several times an offshore one. Check the departmental pricing table on the day you lodge.
Every family member is charged separately, and the charge is not refunded if the application is refused.

How long it takes
Decisions typically take as published by the Department of Home Affairs, stretching to longer over the December to February season in peak season. That clock starts at your appointment, not when you decide to apply, so the queue is usually the longer half of the timeline. Start at least 3 months before you intend to travel.
Why Australia applications get refused
- Genuine temporary entrant not satisfied. The central test. The case has to show why you will return.
- Incomplete financial evidence. Funds shown without the income behind them.
- Inconsistent declarations. Answers in the form that the supporting documents contradict.
- Health or character requirements. Examinations or police certificates not provided when requested.
How we checked these figures
- unverified Government fee. The subclass 600 Tourist stream charge is set by the Department of Home Affairs and indexed each financial year. Secondary sources report AUD 250 for an offshore application from 1 July 2026, but the departmental pricing table could not be read directly, so no figure is published here yet.
Fees are set in foreign currency and converted at the consulate鈥檚 own rate on the day you pay, which is not the market rate. Rupee amounts here use a reference rate from 19 August 2026 and will drift.
